Dating is hard.

Dating is hard.

That's true for everyone, but there's an extra layer of difficulty when you're a disabled woman and dating. People might just immediately be ableist and rude; they might start out fine, but make impossible demands of your body; they might even fetishize you (devotees). It adds another weight to the already crushing task of dating.

Then, if you have worsened problems due to medical malpractice or negligence, you add on some very deep, emotional hurt: someone mistreated me and now I have to pay for it for the rest of my life? Now I have to constantly miss out on aspects of my life that I would otherwise have?

It hurts a lot, and I know I'm not the only one. So many of us - women especially - are overlooked and disregarded socially. Women are expected to play the roles of homemakers, caregivers, and mothers - so what happens when you can't?

Dating is hard though.
