7 tips to stay cool during the summer

There’s a lot of places experiencing a heat wave right now – which can be especially dangerous for us spoonies! Here are 7 tips for staying cool:

  • Make frozen drinks. I purchased an ice shaver and have been freezing cubes of my favorite drinks and putting them through it. It’s delicious and has helped keep me cool!

  • Have a cold compress or cooling towel around your neck. I’ve been doing this when I have to go outside or in the car or any place that’s warmer. Necks and the base of the head tend to get hot fast and cooling it off is very helpful!

  • Lots of fans, especially on you. The moving air on your skin helps with the body’s cooling process. For added cooling, put a bowl of ice directly in front of the fan so it will blow the cool air around the ice onto you!

  • Wear loose fitting and breathable clothing. You want to be able to get some air circulating around your skin and not be trapping your body heat in!

  • Cool water mist – unless it’s humid! Misting cool water on your skin can aid your body’s natural cooling process. However, if it’s humid, the water won’t evaporate and it might worsen the situation!

  • Close all windows and block out as much sunlight as possible during the day. When the temperature outside is warmer than inside, keep all windows closed (doors as much as possible) and block out as much sunlight as you can! It might be tempting to let in the natural light, but it will only cook your house!

  • Take a cold shower. No, not like that. Just a cool or cold water for showering! Having a hot shower not only makes you feel warm, but will turn your bathroom into an amateur sauna! Take cool or cold water showers to quickly cool yourself off and avoid steaming the bathroom!

I hope you all stay cool! Look for local cooling stations if your house gets too hot!
