Chronic SOS - August 23, 2023

It's hard to believe that August is almost over! It's been 100°F or above for most of the month so far in my area, and will be over 100°F for the next five days! The weather clearly hasn't gotten the notice that we're nearing autumn…

To distract myself from the heat, I'll be sharing pictures and videos of autumn and winter landscapes.

Starting off with the complete opposite of what I currently am experiencing:

I would prefer this weather over the scorching heat! At least with cold weather, you can always add layers. With the heat, you can't always remove layers and often it's so hot that you would STILL be hot!

Next, a real time look at Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights):

The subject of numerous Norse myths and legends, Aurora Borealis is the light show produced by changes in the Earth's magnetic field by solar wind. The changes result in charged particles that emit light.

It's known as the "Holy Grail of skywatching" and is often a Bucket List event.

Now, on to what looks like my ideal vacation home:

Though the beach is great, I'm sensitive to the heat and I burn very easily! I'd prefer to vacation somewhere that is colder and more secluded to escape the heat and humidity of the South and the noises of loud neighbors!

Switching to a few autumn landscapes:

It always brings me joy when trees create a tunnel over a pathway or road. It looks beautiful any season, but the multicolored autumn leaves look particularly inviting right now!

But for even more fall foliage, check out this drone footage from 2020 over New England:

Though single trees or small groups of trees are beautiful, you can really see and appreciate the autumn when you see large wooded areas and forests.

My spoons are about as low as my vitamin D levels, so I'll share one last one:

This one also appears to be taken by drone and shows a hillside of red, orange, and yellow leaves against the background of a snowcapped mountain; it really represents the two types of weather that I love most.

I hope everyone has been staying safe and enjoyed their summer vacation. The schools around here are back in session and local universities have welcomed dorm residents for the upcoming semesters!
