Chronic SOS - May 24, 2023
I have major things going on that I hope to be able to announce soon! It's still in the works, but stay tuned!
Because I love Animal Crossing, it's no surprise that I love Stardew Valley too. Em got me into it (once again, shoutout Em) and in turn, I got my mirror BFF into it.
Stardew Valley is probably one of the kings of the cozy games genre: it focuses on rebuilding and running the farm that your grandfather left you in the small town of Stardew Valley, where you meet several unique characters and can explore the mines and other areas. It's a perfect game for when you want to relax and is a great way to distract yourself. It requires just enough concentration to shift your focus away from stress, but not so much that it's difficult to play when you're tired and in pain.
It's extremely detailed too! There's always some extra details that I discover every time that I play, and I'm still far from uncovering them all! Stardew Valley is the result of the developer, ConcernedApe AKA Eric Barone, working independently to develop a game; it's wild to think that the game was developed by only one man!
I originally started playing on Nintendo Switch, but I had to send my controllers to be repaired and wasn't able to play. I saw that there was a mobile version for a decent price and I decided to try it on my tablet. I was skeptical of it, as mobile games often are not as good, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was exactly the same as the console version - just touchscreen
It's quickly become my favorite mobile game and when neuropathy pain in my hands makes it difficult to play on the Switch, I'm still able to play the mobile game and not feel like I'm missing out. It has a variety of accessibility features on the console and mobile versions, like zoom and disabling flash; the mobile version has even more - notably not needing to switch between the pickaxe and sword and automatically attacking with the sword if a monster is within your reach.
When my hands aren't hurting, I'll play the Switch version - which also has multi-player mode. It's great to have options that work for any level of pain and fatigue, without compromising on the quality of the game! I highly recommend any version of the game, and if you have dexterity or low spoon days, to also download the mobile version!
