Happy independence Day!

To my international readers: happy Tuesday!

In honor of the holiday, and keeping in mind my previous post about fireworks, I'll be sharing videos of fireworks alternatives.

Starting with a personal favorite:

This is a video from the Rise Festival, but shows how gorgeous they can be! Most paper lanterns are biodegradable, quiet, and don't have the sudden, bright flashes of light that trigger attacks. Bonus - you can write your wish on them and make a wish as it floats away!

For those that insist on fireworks, "Silent Fireworks" do decrease the harm from traditional fireworks, but look the same:

These still have some issues, but at least they're an improvement.

Now, on to an interactive alternative that can be done at any time of day:

I lost the video of a crowd doing it, but for a fun alternative that everyone can participate in:

  • Give everyone bubble solution and a bubble wand or gun

  • Give a countdown

  • Everyone releases the bubbles at the same time

Or a bubble game:

  • Everyone lines up at one end of a yard/field

  • The yard/field has several hidden prizes

  • After a countdown, bubble machines are started (enough to cover the field or yard)

  • Players must find the prizes through the cloud of bubbles

Game ends when all prizes are found!

Lastly, an alternative that has nearly infinite options, depending on choreography:

Light shows can be choreographed with basically any song and color variations, so the possibilities are endless! It provides the colors and lights of a fireworks show without the harmful chemicals and loud explosions!

They're still not suitable for those sensitive to bright and flashing lights, so that should be taken into account and be sure to warn people ahead of time and give them a couple of minutes warning before it begins.

What’s your favorite July 4th activity?
